Seeing is Believing… Or So You Thought

“I thought I was on the last step, but I wasn’t and that is how I fell.”

“I thought I was cutting just the carrot, but I cut my finger too!”

An estimated 25.2 million adult Americans reported to the National Health Interview Survey in 2008 that they either “have trouble” seeing, even with contacts or glasses, or they are blind. Having low vision can result in an increased risk of injuries and falls.

Lighting Safety Tips for People with Low Vision

• Paint light switches a contrasting color to the wall.
• Use night lights or add dimmers to existing light switches in hallways, bathrooms and kitchens.
• Install under cabinet lighting to improve task lighting.
• Apply a strip of reflective tape along the edges of stairs, inside & out.
• Install lights in closets and attics.
• Put specialty lighting up in all stairways.
• Always keep rooms well lit and keep the lighting level consistent throughout the house. This prevents shadows and bright spots.

Security Lighting

January 23rd, 2010

Do you surprise your guests when they show up and they wonder how you know?

Do you have a flood light with a motion detector that comes on when someone comes to you home?  Security lighting is a great way to light the outside of your home.  It is also great way to protect your family and increase the value of your home.

Most common are motion detectors with halogen floodlights and spotlights. Halogen floodlights, triggered by a motion detector, can deter an intruder or vandal.  Spotlights can focus on one area such as deck or stairs.
Porch lights are another way which can produce a constant source of light at very low wattages.  A dusk to dawn light sensor can be an even greater safety feature to your outdoor lighting.

Don’t leave your home out in the dark when it comes to your security! Let there be light with Genesis Electrical.

We will give you a free assessment of your lighting needs.  Call 804-252-6826.
